Definition of Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning is the controlled scraping of the skin using a sterile, surgical blade held at a 45 degree angle for the removal of keratinized cells on the outer stratum corneum and fine vellus air.

Dermaplaning is an anti-ageing procedure that exfoliates the surface of the skin by removing dead skin cells and vellus hair (peach fuzz).

The procedure is performed by a qualified beauty therapist, dermal therapist, and nurses, who gently glides a scalpel across the skin, removing the outermost layer of the skin cells from the face. As a byproduct, it also removes vellus hair, but the hair will grow back at the same rate and texture as before.
